“…single varietal wines and imaginative blends can offer some of Europe’s finest bottles for the friendliest prices.”

- Daily Mail, on Portuguese wines.

Sogrape

Sogrape was established in 1942 when Fernando van Zeller Guedes had the novel idea to produce Mateus, a slightly sparkling, bright Rosé whose bottle resembled a World War I flask. Mateus Rosé was the first wine to be exported from Portugal, and to this day is the number one Portuguese wine export. Sogrape remains a family owned company run by the third generation of the Guedes family. With distribution around the globe with wines across five countries of origin and over 30 brands including Sandeman Port, Casa Ferreirniha, Ferreira Port, Silk & Spice, Gazela and the newly re-launched Mateus Dry Rose. Sogrape is a pioneer in viticultural sustainability and in a joint effort with the Portuguese government, Sogrape founded PORVID, a non profit organization dedicated to conserving grape biodiversity. Sogrape has preserved over 60 indigenous Portuguese grapes to date, and work is underway to safeguard an additional 200 varieties. Sogrape was awarded the #1 Winery in the World by the World Association of Writers and Journalists of Wines and Spirits in 2016 & 2017.
